Sheikh Munir

Message to the Youngsters

Majid a young Muslim boy living in the USA was among the youngsters who left his family, studies and life in order to join ISIS. His mother Habiba is one of the mothers that had been interviewed to narrate the story of how their offspring decided to join ISIS. She stated that she noticed changes in Majid’s attitudes, like he was always asking about the difference between Sunni and Shia. Even the way he dressed changed, but she had no clue that her son would join an extremist group. He lied to his family that he was going to camp with his friends as usual, while in fact he left to join ISIS. His parents put themselves in danger by traveling to Iraq and Turkey in order to find their son. They spent a lot of money trusting in people who claimed they would bring Majid back home, but nothing happened. They end up receiving a shocking call saying that their son had become a martyr. When he first left, he used to call his mother to ask for forgiveness. She was always telling him that she will never forgive him, because he changed her live to the worst. Majid parents are among thousands of parents who have lost some sense of life since their children left to joined extreme violent groups.

The RESET message of Sheikh David Munir, the Imam of the Central Mosque of Lisbon, to the youngsters is: “Know each other, respect each other, know how to live with each other, value family, don’t quit studies and make dreams come true” in order to sensitize youngsters on the importance of family and make them aware to think before doing anything, because what they will do today will return to them in the future, whether good or bad in other word ‘karma’.
