Portugal is the sixth country that welcomed more refugees under the Relocation Program. Since 2015, Portugal has relocated 1870 refugees in more than 100 municipalities. Portuguese Government points out that integration indicators show that 92% of the refugees have learned the Portuguese language, all have access to health care, all school-age children attend the education system and almost half (43%) of adults are integrated in the labor market or in training programs.
Like all the employees at the first Syrian restaurant in Lisbon, Serenah Sabat is also a refugee and a manager of Mezze. More than a restaurant, Mezze is the second home to those who share the same story. A story of survival, of fight, of memories not as good as they would like. This is Serenah’s story too. Serenah is now creating new memories in Portugal, a country that she describes with passion and tranquility.
